Luis Suarez is hopeful that Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi will sign a new contract in order to sort out his future.

He also expects the Argentine to go on and retire at the Camp Nou. Suarez recently signed a five-year contract, which raises his release clause to £ 170 million, and he celebrated it in the best possible manner by scoring twice in the 4-1 win over Espanyol during the weekend. It was a victory that Barcelona three points behind Real Madrid, albeit having played a game more than their rivals. After having secured the long-term future of Suarez, Barcelona will immediately be turning their attention towards Messi.

Messi’s contract comes to an end in the summer of 2018 and there is concerned with only 18 months left. More than the interest from other clubs, Messi has been rumoured to be contemplating about retiring back home in Argentina.

Suarez, though, expects the 29-year-old to agree to fresh terms in the near future. The Spanish league will be going on a two-week break and will not return until the first week of January. It is highly unlikely that turns will be negotiated during this holiday period, but Messi is expected to begin talks once he returns from the short holiday.

"He is a big boy and knows what he has to decide. He also knows where he is happy and we hope for everyone's benefit he stays here, but he is the one that has to take the decision. Leo's move (for the second goal) is a PlayStation move from a unique player that only he can do," said Suarez after the win over Espanyol. Messi played an instrumental factor in the four goals scored by the club, although he could only end up with one for his personal tally. Suarez and Messi lead the goalscoring charts with 12 goals apiece.
